EESL and USAID launch "Healthy and Green Buildings" Initiative
On World Environment Day, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and USAID MAITREE program launched the “Healthy and Energy Efficient Buildings” initiative that will pioneer healthier and greener workplaces. EESL has taken leadership in this initiative by being the first to add air filtration and air quality monitoring systems in its Corporate Office at Scope Complex, New Delhi. Read more

The LEED Green Associate exam measures general knowledge of green building practices and how to support others working on LEED projects. LEED GA exam can now be taken online from home instead of going to a prometric testing centre. Star Garment Innovation Centre, Sri Lanka
The renovated factory building is the first certified Passive House building in Sri Lanka. It is designed to improve the working conditions for employees amidst the hot and humid climate while keeping energy demand low. Infact, after a year of occupancy, the building reduced its annual energy use by around 54% compared to its original performance. Many of the strategies used- like continuous exterior insulation, highly efficient windows, variable refrigerant flow heat pumps with wraparound heat pipe for enhanced dehumidication capacity and balanced ventilation with heat recovery- could be used in future industrial projects in tropical climates. Sweden leads Energy Transition Index 2020 by World Economic Forum
The index measures preparedness of 115 countries for energy transition. Those countries that are most energy-ready have adopted diverse pathways, including policy reforms, access to capital and consumer engagement, to improve their readiness. India was ranked 74th this year. Read more
Chilled beam tech + DOAS are low-energy solutions for clean indoor air
Combining chilled beam technology using hydronic heating and cooling with Dedicated DOAS  (Dedicated Outdoor Air Supply) systems provides improved contaminant removal with energy and cost benefits. Chilled beam tech requires smaller air handlers and ducts. Read more
Cities extend walking and cycling routes amidst the pandemic
As the demand for public transport drops, cities like London, Milan, Paris and Bogota are extending footways, restricting driving on streets and adding extra cycle lanes. These temporary changes could reduce the overall demand for motorised travel in the future. Read more

USAID-led Market Integration and Transformation for Energy Efficiency program (MAITREE) is a four-year bilateral program with the Ministry of Power. MAITREE supports efforts for moving towards a super-efficient and Net Zero Energy target for new buildings. EDS is the implementing partner of this program.
