A Typical Pole Mounted Distribution Transformer

This type of transformer is the final step in voltage transformation in the electric power distribution system. It steps down the voltage received from the distribution lines to a level required by the end consumer. The standard ratings covered under the scheme are 16, 25, 63, 100, 160 and 200kVa and non-standard ratings from 16 to 200kVa. Star rating for a distribution transformer are given based on the losses at 50 %( min) and 100% (max) loading in Watts. The variation in minimum and maximum losses is based on the capacity (in kVa) of the transformer. The higher the losses, lesser is the efficiency of the transformer.
