New reports find that by the year 2030, renewables will beat 96 percent of today’s existing coal-fired generation across the world. With a number of nations announcing a complete ban on coal coupled with dramatic drops in the prices of renewable energy along with the intention to combat climate change on lines of the Paris agreement, there could be an “existential crisis” for the coal industry.
