SUMMARY:ASEAN Roadmaps Towards Sustainable and Energy Efficient Buildings and Cooling in Southeast Asia
DESCRIPTION:In 2019\, ASEAN’s buildings sector accounted for 23% of final energy use and 24% of energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions\, excluding emissions from manufacturing building materials (IEA\, 2020). While the ASEAN Member States (AMS) are at various stages of economic development and have access to different energy resources and energy consumption requirements\, they share the common challenge of meeting rising energy demand in a secure\, affordable and sustainable manner. \nThe International Energy Agency (IEA)\, in partnership with the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE)\, the ASEAN Secretariat\, and the Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation Sub-Sector Network\, are implementing a new project to develop detailed roadmaps for buildings and space cooling in the region. The roadmap process is designed to assist the AMS in developing and implementing strategies\, plans\, policies and programmes to reduce the energy demand from buildings and cooling. \nThe workshop aims to bring together expert policy makers\, academics\, architects and engineers\, and industry representatives from across Southeast Asia to share their knowledge and experience and provide inputs into the roadmap process.

SUMMARY:NZEB Knowledge Series | Developing Urban Energy Models for Indian Cities: A case study of Ahmedabad
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nUrban energy models (UEM) are critical data-driven tools to support energy-efficient\, climate-resilient city planning and its operations. They also play a key role in accessing the decentralised renewable energy generation potential within the city\, which in turn help design and operate Net Zero Neighbourhoods. The development of UEMs depend upon the range of spatial and semantic details of the buildings\, neighbourhoods and cities\, UEM refers to the computational modelling and simulation of a group of buildings along with associated urban infrastructure. The webinar will introduce UEM fundamentals initially\, explain methods and generic tools used for UEMs. Prof. Rawal will also share the UEM work currently underway for the city of Ahmedabad. \nAbout the Presenter:\nRajan Rawal is a CRDF Professor at CEPT University and Executive Director of “Centre for Advanced Studies in Building Science and Energy” (CARBSE) at CEPT Research and Development Foundation. His research and education activities revolved around building envelop optimization\, building performance simulation\, thermal comfort and architectural science education. He serves on organizing the council of the Global Cooling Prize and on may other international committees He is the recipient of the Jeffery cook scholarship by the Society of Building Science Educators and is the first architect in India to receive the honour of ASHRAE Fellow. He is also Chair of Education at the International Building Performance Association (IBPSA). \nThis webinar is part of ‘NZEB Knowledge Series’ – an initiative supported by USAID’s MAITREE program (http://maitree.edsglobal.com) to accelerate the discussions and catalyze actions on Net Zero Energy Buildings in India.

SUMMARY:A Hot Market for Renewable Cooling - This Is Cool Webinar Series
DESCRIPTION:To address the challenge of achieving universal access to cooling while avoiding substantial greenhouse gas emissions\, we need to identify\, implement and upscale low carbon and sustainable technologies. Renewable-based cooling options are among these solutions\, but their application and transformational potential remain largely untapped. \nIn this session\, the International Renewable Energy Agency\, the United Nations Environment Programme and Sustainable Energy for All join forces under the framework of the Cool Coalition to provide an overview of the various cooling technologies coupled with renewable energy existing in the market and the experiences\, learnings and challenges of countries that are implementing these technologies. \nThe goal of this #ThisIsCool webinar is to raise awareness on the potential of high-efficient renewable energy-driven cooling technologies\, on their role in helping countries meet GHG emissions reduction targets and Sustainable Development Goals\, and to call on their accelerated implementation.

SUMMARY:NZEB Series | Net Zero Design Show Case - Student Housing at St Andrew
DESCRIPTION:Climate Responsive Design is fundamental to achieve the Net Zero Energy goal. St.Andrews student’s hostel at Gurugram\, India by Zero Energy Design Labs (ZED) embodies this and more. The design prioritizes thermal comfort and functionality to become an exemplar of zero energy design. Strategies such as appropriate form and orientation\, materiality and creation of spaces in the hostel block are based on climatic conditions\, sun path analysis and air movement. Sachin Rastogi\, the project architect will be sharing the process from concept to occupancy. \nZED Lab is a Delhi-based\, research-driven\, architecture and interior design studio specializing in net-zero energy buildings. The firm works collaboratively to formulate strategies that draw inspiration from the Indian vernacular for present and future needs. The studio seeks to push the envelope for economically viable building systems\, optimized for energy savings. \nAbout the speaker:\nSachin Rastogi\nFounder Director and Design Principal of Zero Energy Design Labs\, Architect Sachin Rastogi pioneers designs of buildings that are focussed on energy efficiency and zero energy consumption. Through his work at ZED Labs\, he has led the design process and been responsible for a range of prestigious projects across diverse typologies such as residential\, hospitality\, institutional\, commercial and industrial- all focused on zero energy buildings\, that qualify the global standard of green building design. Rastogi’s expertise lies in passive and low energy solutions for high rise residential buildings in composite climates. To him\, sustainability is not an isolated layer in design\, but an indispensable component that enhances the experience of the built environment. \nThis webinar is part of ‘NZEB Knowledge Series’ – an initiative supported by USAID’s MAITREE program (http://maitree.edsglobal.com) to accelerate the discussions and catalyse actions on Net Zero Energy Buildings in India.
