SUMMARY:2020 Energy Efficiency and Climate Policy Forum
DESCRIPTION:ACEEE research has found that energy efficiency can halve U.S. energy use and greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. With growing interest in policies to address global climate change\, as well as a new Congress and a new presidential term to begin in January 2021\, ACEEE will be hosting the Energy Efficiency and Climate Policy Forum to discuss key steps and policies that will help the United States get on this 50% reduction pathway. The forum will feature keynote addresses by a congressional leader and an official associated with the next administration plus four sessions focusing on: \n\nBuildings – improvements to existing buildings and opportunities for electrification\nIndustry – industrial carbonization strategies\nTransportation – advanced vehicles and systems\nCross-cutting – state-led planning\, clean energy standard\, and carbon pricing

SUMMARY:Behaviour\, Energy & Climate Change Conference (BECC 2020)
DESCRIPTION:The Behavior\, Energy & Climate Change Conference (BECC) is the premier international conference focused on understanding human behavior and decision making and using that knowledge to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future. Currently\, in its 14th year\, BECC is associated with a growing set of allied conferences in Europe and Asia. \nThe BECC Conference is convened by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE)\, California Institute for Energy and Environment (CIEE) at U.C. Berkeley\, and the Environmental and Energy Policy Analysis Center (SEEPAC) at Stanford University.

SUMMARY:The 12th GRIHA Summit - Rejuvenating Resilient Habitats
DESCRIPTION:Annual conference on green buildings by The Energy and Resources Institute. \nThe 12th GRIHA Summit scheduled from December 15-16\, 2020 has been themed around “Rejuvenating Resilient Habitats” and shall serve as a platform to deliberate on innovative technologies and solutions which shall help in creating robust mechanisms for developing sustainable and resilient solutions for the benefit of the entire community. \nThe world has been witnessing a number of natural calamities be it floods\, droughts\, and cyclones. All these calamities question the way we design our habitats which currently demonstrate rampant usage of resources and hold a complete disregard of nature unlike the buildings that used to be designed in the past. Thus\, nature has been giving us signals time and again to change the ways of our operation so as to maintain harmony with the environment or else we would be witnessing some irreversible consequences that would not only affect us but our future generations as well. \nTherefore\, it is high time for us to change our designing and construction practices to be resilient. Resilience in terms of climate\, health related issues\, natural calamities\, biodiversity\, etc. Resilient Habitat is therefore an approach in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation which targets the most vulnerable communities. By restoring the traditional practices of building and cities construction\, we wish to gear up the building construction sector for a vibrant and much fresher approach to the built environment\, living symbiotically with all the components of the natural environment.

SUMMARY:NZEB Knowledge Series | Net Zero & Low Carbon by Design - Bayalpata Hospital in Nepal
DESCRIPTION:Register now \nBayalpata Hospital in Achham\, Nepal is a culturally-appropriate design that leverages local climate and on-site materials to minimize carbon in the construction process and building operation. Built from low-tech construction methods–primarily reinforced rammed earth–the complex minimized the cost-prohibitive transportation of building materials in this remote\, mountainous region. The grid-hybrid solar hospital generates surplus energy due to the combination of passive design strategies–including natural light and ventilation–and a 100-kilowatt photovoltaic array integrated into the buildings’ south-facing roofs\, resulting in an impeccable net zero design. This webinar will showcase the process and techniques that went into the making of this exemplary project. \nAbout the speaker:\nTyler Survant\nTyler is an architect and Project Director at Sharon Davis Design\, and was the project manager for the Bayalpata Hospital\, a rammed earth medical campus in the Himalayas for Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population\, completed in 2019. Formerly with SHoP Architects\, Tyler lived in Gaborone\, Botswana from 2014 to 2017 for on-site construction administration of the Botswana Innovation Hub\, an $85 million USD tech incubator for the country’s Ministry of Tertiary Education\, Research\, Science and Technology. Sharon Davis Design is an award-winning studio based in New York City with a focus on low-carbon\, cost-conscious international projects for marginalized communities. The office prioritizes social justice\, economic empowerment\, and environmental sustainability\, and has gained renown for its ability to deliver both aesthetic accomplishment and social benefit. \nThis webinar is part of ‘NZEB Knowledge Series’ – an initiative supported by USAID’s MAITREE program (http://maitree.edsglobal.com) to accelerate the discussions and catalyse actions on Net Zero Energy Buildings in India.
