SUMMARY:NZEB Knowledge Series | A Climate Based Approach to Carbon-Neutral design
DESCRIPTION:Register Now \n \nEnergy-efficient zero carbon buildings can only be designed after first understanding climate and the design strategies that can be implemented to respond to it. This presentation will describe the Performance-Driven Design workflow at CallisonRTKL using different building simulation tools and applied research results with examples from practice. Research and analysis on carbon neutral design by students at Cal Poly Pomona in the United States carried out under the mentorship of Pablo La Roche will also be shared in the webinar. \nAbout the speaker:\nPablo La Roche\nAssociate VP\, Callison RTKL\nProfessor\, Cal Poly Pomona University \nPablo La Roche is an associate vice president in CallisonRTKL’s Los Angeles office and a leader for the firm’s Performance-Driven DesignTM initiatives\, focusing on sustainable design for the commercial practice group. His expansive portfolio includes sustainable buildings all over the world designed with state-of-the-art tools. A tenured professor of architecture at Cal Poly Pomona University\, Pablo is also an accomplished author; he has written more than 130 technical papers for journals and conferences\, and his book Carbon Neutral Architectural Design placed in the top ten in Amazon’s Energy and Buildings category. He is also past president of the Society of Building Science Educators and chair of the solar buildings division of the American Solar Energy Society. \nThis webinar is part of ‘NZEB Knowledge Series’ – an initiative supported by USAID’s MAITREE program to accelerate the discussions and catalyse actions on Net Zero Energy Buildings in India.

SUMMARY:NZEB Knowledge Series | Personal Thermal Comfort Systems: Introduction and Overview
DESCRIPTION:Register now \nAir-conditioned buildings are conventionally designed and operated to maintain homogeneous thermal conditions withing thermal zones. Maintaining the occupied and unoccupied thermal zones at the same thermal conditions lead to higher energy consumption. More importantly\, homogeneous thermal conditions do not address the need for individual thermal comfort preferences of the building occupants. A personal comfort system (PCS) allows the occupants to create desired localized thermal conditions around workstations in the office environment. \nIn this webinar\, Prof Rawal will deliberate on the approaches adopted for the PCS to deliver the desired conditions. It also will deal with investigative methods adopted to understand the impact of the PCS on achieving thermal comfort\, energy\, and well being of the building occupant. The webinar will include metrics and conditions prescribed by the literature to design and operate PCS in the buildings. \nAbout the speaker:\nRajan Rawal\nExecutive Director\, Centre for Advanced Research in Building Science and Energy\, CEPT University\, Ahmedabad\nProf. Rawal is the Executive Director of Centre for Advanced Research in Building Science and Energy (CARBSE). He is an architect and his work emphasizes on ‘energy performance of buildings and cities’ and ‘architectural science education’. He is involved in research and development activities at CEPT University and coordinates the activities of CARBSE. He is founder member secretary of India Chapter of International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA) and also serves at IBPSA world committee. He has number of research papers\, technical reports and three books to his credits. Prof. Rawal is a well known authority in the area of building energy efficiency and performance. \nThis webinar is part of ‘NZEB Knowledge Series’ – an initiative supported by USAID’s MAITREE program (http://maitree.edsglobal.com) to accelerate the discussions and catalyse actions on Net Zero Energy Buildings in India.
