SUMMARY:Integrated controls in NZEBs: Technologies for lighting and HVAC
DESCRIPTION:Archives: EventsModern high performance and net-zero buildings are increasingly smart. And one of the requirements of a smart building is understanding occupant presence. This can increasingly be accomplished through luminaire-level lighting controls (LLLC) with occupancy sensing in every fixture\, creating a dense mesh network of sensing. These occupancy sensing networks are in turn paired with digital communications that allow these sensors to be tapped for many uses\, not just lighting. The sensor signals can also be used to save HVAC energy\, control plug loads\, understand space utilization\, and more. This presentation will describe the basics of LLLC\, how they can be integrated with other systems\, and how designers and operators can make the most of the data from them\, including specific sequence suggestions. We will also discuss use cases in some example buildings. \nAbout the Speaker: \nScott is the Director of Research and Innovation with Slipstream\, leading research efforts focused on commercial building energy systems. His work focuses on applied research of technologies and processes through field monitoring\, analysis\, and extensive energy modeling. He has specialized in the research of HVAC\, lighting\, and plug load controls\, as well as ground source heat pumps. In addition\, he consults with architects and engineers on high-performance building designs and systems. Scott is an active member of ASHRAE at both the local and national levels; including membership in their national Technical Committees. Bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from UW-Madison\, as well as a graduate certificate in energy analysis and policy. \nThis webinar is part of ‘NZEB Knowledge Series’ – an initiative supported by USAID’s MAITREE program (http://maitree.edsglobal.com) to accelerate the discussions and catalyse actions on Net Zero Energy Buildings in India.
